A closer look at ResearchOS.
ResearchOS organizes research as a sequence of decisions a person can inspect: define the question, plan the work, gather sources, evaluate evidence, and write from the selected material. The experience keeps the trail available as the work moves from an initial question to a saved workspace and a cited draft.
The challenge
An answer alone does not explain which sources support it or how the research reached that conclusion. Moving between search, notes, and a writing tool can also break the connection between a useful claim and its evidence. The challenge is to support faster research while preserving the context a person needs to review, revise, and defend the result.
The product experience
ResearchOS breaks a question into focused objectives and makes the stages of a research run visible. Evidence records connect claims to excerpts, sources, tool calls, and trace events. Users can select research runs for cited APA or MLA papers, then keep research and writing together in saved workspaces rather than treating each answer as an isolated exchange.
- A connected path from focused objectives to source evaluation and cited writing.
- Evidence stays inspectable through excerpts, source records, tool activity, and traces.
- Saved workspaces give research runs and paper revisions a place to continue together.
Product & engineering
The public product describes bounded research runs, source provenance, and a writing flow based on selected evidence. Its traces include MCP tool activity alongside the material those tools gathered. Workspaces retain runs, evidence, and papers under the user's account. The guided public demo uses predetermined records to explain the workflow without saving work or consuming credits.
The decisions that shape the work
Make research inspectable
Expose the planning and evidence trail so a claim can be examined in context.
Carry sources into writing
Build cited drafts from selected runs while keeping the paper connected to its inputs.
Let a project continue
Keep sessions, papers, profiles, and revisions together in a workspace the user can return to.
Working within the constraints
- Claims need a route back to supporting evidence and original source excerpts.
- The writing workflow needs to use the research the user selected, with source review still available.
- Saved work needs to support research sessions and paper revisions over time.
